A general term for a type of pouched animal belonging to the Priapulidae family of the class Priapulidae, or one of these animals. They are often treated as part of the phylum Priapulidae. They are worm-like marine animals that look like star worms and live in sand and mud on the ocean floor at depths of 10 to 700 meters. Their body is divided into a prosome and a trunk, and the prosome can be retracted into the body. At the rear end, there are one or two appendages that form a cluster of hollow sacs. Small spines and papillae are scattered irregularly on the surface of the body, and there are many segment-like constrictions. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
