Geological forces
The term refers to the various forces that cause geological processes. For example, the transport of sediments requires the forces of gravity, wind, and water, and water in particular plays an important role not only in its liquid phase but also in its solid phase, such as snow and ice. The term geological processes refers to all physical and chemical processes involved in the formation, transformation, and disappearance of rocks, which are the constituent materials of the Earth's crust, including sedimentation, igneous action, and metamorphism, as well as crustal movement, stress, and strain.

地質作用geological processの原因となるさまざまな営力をいう。例えば,堆積物の運搬という地質作用にとっては,重力,風,水などの営力が必要で,特に水の役割は液相としてはもちろん,雪や氷のような固相としても重要である。ここでいう地質作用とは,地殻構成物質である岩石の生成,変化,消滅の全過程にかかわりのある物理的・化学的作用のすべてであって,それらの中には堆積作用,火成作用,変成作用はもちろん,地殻変動,応力,ひずみなども含まれる。
