Erabu sea snake

Also known as the Erabu eel. A venomous snake of the Erabu-nae subfamily of the Elapidae family. Total length is 1-1.3m, with a maximum of about 1.8m. Distributed from the southern coast of the Japanese archipelago to the South China Sea and Indian Ocean. Commonly found on the coral reefs of the Ryukyu Islands. Body color is a mixture of dark green and yellowish brown. The tail is laterally compressed, making it suitable for swimming. Although it contains a strong neurotoxin, it rarely bites humans. It preys on fish and spawns on land. In Okinawa, it is used as a folk medicine and for food. Class II endangered species (Ministry of the Environment's 4th Red List).
