When you look at a dairy cow from behind, you can see a thin, soft, short hair growing in a line above the udder, between the legs, and around the anus, surrounding a certain area. This part is called the milk speculum, and it is said that cows with a large milk speculum have a large milk production, and is considered one of the milk signs (physical characteristics that indicate milk production ability). 乳牛を後ろから見ると乳房の上，両股間から肛門周辺へかけて薄く柔らかい短毛が線状に逆毛に生えていて，一定の面積を囲んでいるのが見られる。この部分を乳鏡と呼び，これが大きい個体は泌乳量が多いといわれ，乳徴(泌乳能力を示す体型上の特徴)の一つに挙げられている。【正田 陽一】
