A French author of fairy tales. Her father, a Russian general who served as Governor of Moscow during Napoleon's invasion, fell out of favor with the Tsar, so she moved to France with her family in 1816 and married Count Ségur in 1819. She spent most of her life on her estate of Nouettes in Normandy, and many of her fairy tales are set in the region. She would make up stories to read to her young grandchildren on rainy days, but when her two granddaughters moved to London with their father, a diplomat, she began writing stories.

フランスの童話作家。ロシアの将軍で，ナポレオン侵攻のおりモスクワ総督であった父が皇帝の寵を失ったため，一家とともに1816年フランスに移住し，19年セギュール伯爵と結婚した。ノルマンディー地方のヌエットの領地で生涯の大部分を過ごし，夫人の童話は多くこの地方を舞台としている。雨の日に幼い孫たちに話をつくり聞かせていたが，2人の孫娘が外交官の父とともにロンドンに移ったのがきっかけで，夫人は物語を書き始めた。
