Gyatso - Gyatso

The Gelu sect of Buddhism, founded by Tsongkhapa, developed rapidly and came into conflict with the previous sects, each of which joined forces with powerful tribes in the east and west to fight against each other. After the death of Gedun Gyatso, who organized the Gelu resistance movement, his reincarnation was chosen, following the custom of the opposition, as a symbol of unity of forces. This reincarnated Buddha, Sonam Gyatso, went to Qinghai in 1578 to meet Altan Khan of Mongolia and was given the title of Dalai Lama.
