Bubi

… [Nobuyuki Hashimoto]
[Residents, Society]
More than three-quarters of the country's total population lives in Mbini on the mainland, where 80% of the inhabitants are Bantu Fang people, with the Kombe, Barengue, and Bujeba people also living. In addition to the indigenous Bubi people, Bioko Island is inhabited by Fang people who migrated from Mbini, descendants of freed slaves, and immigrants from Nigeria. During the reign of terror under President Francisco Macias Nguema (1924-79), it is said that one-third of the population fled the country to Cameroon, Gabon, and other countries.
