1884-1979 A historian of manners and customs from the Taisho to Showa periods.
Born December 2, 1884. Grandson of Ema Tenko. Established the Society for the Study of Manners and Customs in 1911, and launched the journal "Manners and Customs Research" in 1916. Became a professor at Kyoto Women's University in 1949. Became the first president of the Japanese Society for the History of Manners and Customs in 1960. Conducted empirical research into manners and customs. Died May 10, 1979. Age 94. Born in Kyoto. Graduated from Kyoto Imperial University. Written works include "History of Japanese Manners and Customs" and "Yusoku Kojitsu".

明治17年12月2日生まれ。江馬天江の孫。明治44年風俗研究会をつくり,大正5年機関誌「風俗研究」を創刊。昭和24年京都女子大教授。35年日本風俗史学会初代会長。風俗を実証的に研究した。昭和54年5月10日死去。94歳。京都出身。京都帝大卒。著作に「日本風俗史」「有職(ゆうそく)故実」など。
