Born December 2, 1884. Grandson of Ema Tenko. Established the Society for the Study of Manners and Customs in 1911, and launched the journal "Manners and Customs Research" in 1916. Became a professor at Kyoto Women's University in 1949. Became the first president of the Japanese Society for the History of Manners and Customs in 1960. Conducted empirical research into manners and customs. Died May 10, 1979. Age 94. Born in Kyoto. Graduated from Kyoto Imperial University.
