An old town in Hikawa County facing the Sea of Japan in northeastern Shimane Prefecture. Formerly called Kitsuki, it developed as a temple town for Izumo Taisha Shrine. The Ichibata train line runs through the town. Grape cultivation is popular in the sand dunes. Inasa Beach is a shallow sandy beach that is said to be the landing place for gods who gather at Izumo Taisha Shrine from all over the country, and a god-welcoming ritual is held there on the 10th of the 10th lunar month. It is also a swimming beach. There is Hinomisaki. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Izumo City along with Hirata City, Sada Town, Taki Town, and Koryo Town in Hikawa County. 41.80 km2 . 島根県北東部,日本海に面する簸川(ひかわ)郡の旧町。古く杵築(きづき)といい,出雲大社の門前町として発達。一畑(いちばた)電車が通じる。砂丘ではブドウの栽培が盛ん。稲佐浜(いなさのはま)は遠浅の砂浜で全国から出雲大社に集まる神々の上陸地とされ,陰暦10月10日に神迎え神事が行われる。海水浴場でもある。日御碕(ひのみさき)がある。2005年3月平田市,簸川郡佐田町,多伎町,湖陵町と出雲市へ編入。41.80km2。1万6258人(2003)。
