Sadayasu Kato
Year of death: May 22, 1623 (June 19, 1623)
Year of birth: Tensho 8 (1580)
A feudal lord in the early Edo period. Lord of Ozu Domain in Iyo Province (Ehime Prefecture). His father was Mitsuyasu, and his mother was the daughter of Tobeijo Ichiyanagi. He was born in Isono Village, Omi Province (Takatsuki Town, Ika District, Shiga Prefecture). He was also called Mitsunaga. In 1594, he inherited a fief of 240,000 koku in Fuchu, Kai Province, but because Ishida Mitsunari and his father Mitsuyasu had not been on good terms during his lifetime, he was transferred to Kurono, Mino Province, with a reduced fief of 40,000 koku due to his young age. In the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, he joined the Eastern Army and fought fiercely against the Shimazu clan and others in the Western Army. In 1615, he was granted an additional 20,000 koku, bringing his total to 60,000 koku, and was transferred to Yonago, Hoki Province (Tottori Prefecture). He also fought in the Siege of Osaka (1614, 1615) and distinguished himself. In 1617, he was transferred to Ozu with a fief of 60,000 koku, and became its first feudal lord. He was skilled in horse riding, loved renga (linked verse), and was a man of refined tastes. He died in Edo.
