Japanese: アゲハヒメバチ - あげはひめばち（英語表記）an ichneumon fly

An insect of the Hymenoptera family Ichneumonidae. A type of parasitic wasp. It is large, with a body length of about 16 mm, and has beautiful red and yellowish brown markings on a black or dark brown background. Several segments at the base of the abdomen have vertical ridges, and the subsequent segments have large depressions on both sides of the back. When raising swallowtail butterfly larvae such as the Ageha, the Common Malachite, and the Miyama Crow, collected in the wild, you may sometimes be surprised to see this wasp emerge from the pupa instead of a butterfly. The female lays eggs on the host's young larvae, and the hatched wasp larvae continue to grow inside the host's body, and after the Ageha larvae have become pupae for a while, they make a hole in the back of the pupa and emerge.

膜翅目ヒメバチ科の昆虫。寄生バチの1種。大型で体長16mm内外，黒色および黒褐色の地に赤色と黄褐色の斑紋があり美しい。腹部の基部の数節には縦に走る隆起があり，それ以後の節には背面両側にそれぞれ大きなくぼみがある。野外で採集したアゲハ，キアゲハ，ミヤマカラスアゲハなどアゲハ類の幼虫を飼育していると，ときどきさなぎからチョウではなくこのハチが羽化して驚かされることがある。雌は寄主の若齢幼虫に産卵し，孵化（ふか）したハチの幼虫はそのまま体内で成長し，アゲハの幼虫がさなぎになってしばらくすると，その背面に穴を開けて羽化する。
