...Also, attempts to classify body types, such as fat, thin, muscular, etc., have been proposed by E. Kretschmer, WH Sheldon, and others. These are called "somatotypes" or "body types," and are classifications of the external shape of the body, and have a different meaning from physique. Measurements of physique are made using biometric values such as height, weight, chest circumference, sitting height, arm length, leg length, and subcutaneous fat thickness, and in addition to their absolute values, ratios (indexes) between each measurement are often used to express physique.
