Drencher - Dorencha (English spelling) drencher

A type of fire prevention device that covers the entire building with a water curtain by spraying water from the eaves or openings to prevent the fire from spreading to the building in the event of a fire starting from the perimeter of the building. The structure is that pipes are installed at the eaves or openings of the building, and water from a tank is pressurized with a pump and sent out from a special water outlet. There are types in which water comes out forcefully like a curtain from the top of the building, and types that spray water from below. By covering the entire building with a large amount of water curtain in the form of fine particles, it has a good cooling effect and heat insulation effect, and can protect the building from fires on the perimeter. In Japan, they are often installed in shrines and temples designated as important cultural properties.

建物外周部からの火災の場合に、建物への延焼を防ぐため、軒先や開口部などから水を出して建物全体を水幕で包む防火装置の一種。構造は、建物の軒先や開口部に配管して、水槽の水をポンプによって圧力をつけて送水し、特殊な放水口から散水する。建物上部から水がカーテン状に勢いよく出るものや、下から噴き上げるものなどがあり、微粒子状、大量の水幕で建物全体を覆うことにより、冷却効果、熱遮断効果がよく、建物を外周の火災から保護することができる。日本では、重要文化財に指定された社寺・仏閣などに多く取り付けられている。
