Eastern [town] - Tobu
A former town in Chiisagata County, eastern Nagano Prefecture. The town is centered in Tanaka, on the right bank of the Chikuma River, where the third-sector Shinano Railway runs. Rice and field crops are cultivated, and the town's specialty is oak walnuts. Mount Yunomaru in the northeast is part of Joshin'etsu Kogen National Park. In April 2004, it merged with Kitamimaki Village in Kitasaku County to form Tomi City. Area: 86.55 km2 . Population: 25,620 (2003).

長野県東部，小県(ちいさがた)郡の旧町。中心は第三セクターしなの鉄道が通じる千曲川右岸の田中。米作，畑作が行われ，特産にカシグルミがある。北東部の湯ノ丸山などは上信越高原国立公園の一部。2004年４月北佐久郡北御牧村と合併し，東御市となる。86.55km2。２万5620人（2003）。
