Eastern [town] - Tobu
A former town in Chiisagata County, eastern Nagano Prefecture. The town is centered in Tanaka, on the right bank of the Chikuma River, where the third-sector Shinano Railway runs. Rice and field crops are cultivated, and the town's specialty is oak walnuts. Mount Yunomaru in the northeast is part of Joshin'etsu Kogen National Park. In April 2004, it merged with Kitamimaki Village in Kitasaku County to form Tomi City. Area: 86.55 km2 . Population: 25,620 (2003).
