Carnivora, Felidae. Body length 70cm, tail length 40cm. Body is gray-brown with a dark stripe down the center of the back and black ring patterns on the tail and legs. It is mainly nocturnal and preys on small animals. It is found in southern Europe, Africa, and Asia. The domestic cat (catus catus) is believed to be a domesticated version of this species. 食肉目ネコ科。体長 70cm，尾長 40cm。体は灰褐色で，背部中央に暗色の縞があり，尾および四肢に黒色の環状模様がある。おもに夜間行動し，小動物を捕食する。南ヨーロッパ，アフリカ，アジアに分布する。なお，家畜のネコ (イエネコ) は，本種を飼い馴らしたものとされている。
