Excoecaria cochinchinensis Lour.

Japanese: セイシボク(青紫木) - セイシボク(英語表記)Excoecaria cochinchinensis Lour.
Excoecaria cochinchinensis Lour.
A shrub of the Euphorbiaceae family. It grows to a height of 2m, with many thin twigs and bushy growth. The leaves are egg-shaped, lanceolate, and pointed, with a glossy green upper surface and a vivid purple-red underside, creating a beautiful contrast. The flowers are small and inconspicuous. It has long been a well-known ornamental plant, and should be kept above 10°C in winter. In summer, it is best to place it in the shade to prevent sunburn. It should be planted in fertile soil with good drainage, and propagated by cutting the tips of branches 5-10cm long in June-July. There are about 25 species of Excoecaria in the tropical regions of the Old World.
