An ancient temple located in Yao City, Osaka Prefecture. It is also written as Yugiji. It is thought to have been the family temple of the Yuge clan. Since Gyosho made a tribute to the temple in 742 (Tenpyo 14), it was probably built before that. As Dokyo was from the Yuge clan, Emperor Shotoku visited the temple in 765 (Tenpyo Jingo 1), bestowed food stipends on 200 households, and had a pagoda built in 770 (Hōki 1). It is unclear what happened to the temple after the Heian period, but it eventually fell into decadence. [Nakai Masataka] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
