…Henry Hudson (?-1611), also from England, after failing to find a Northeast Passage, went south and explored the coast of North America, discovering the Hudson River and Hudson Bay, but was left behind by his men in 1611 and died there. In 1616, William Baffin (?-1622), also from England, discovered Baffin Bay in search of a Northwest Passage, and investigated the northeast coast of Baffin Island, but failed to find a route. In 1670, the Hudson's Bay Company was founded, which became the basis for the fur trade in the Canadian Arctic and subsequent trading activities. …
