A Protestant sect of Christianity. It was founded by the Swiss Mennonite Jakob Ammann (c. 1644-c. 1730) and is named after him. To escape persecution in their home country, their followers emigrated to the United States in the 18th century, and there are still tens of thousands of them, mainly in Pennsylvania. Their lifestyle is extremely conservative, mainly engaged in agriculture, they wear homemade clothes, do not use cars or electricity, and they educate their children themselves.
