〘Noun〙① The act of adding charcoal in a tea house. ※Haiku poem Inukoshu (1633), 6 "All the charcoal is left to the Lord of the Palace (Jijitsugu)"② Refers to charcoal divination during the Little New Year. Walnuts and other nuts are placed on the ashes of the hearth, and the way they burn is used to predict the weather for each month of the year.
