One of the four cases reported by S. Freud in "Studies on Hysteria." Lucy was an unmarried English woman, aged 30, who was living in the house of a Vienna factory owner as a governess, but suffered from a strange subjective smell and was treated by Freud. Freud traced her recollections and analyzed her case, and discovered that behind the smell was her love for the factory owner and the repression of that love. He also discovered that the smell was actually the smell of a cigar that a visitor had been smoking when the factory owner scolded her, and that Lucy had replaced and transformed her feelings of love into the smell of the cigar.

S.フロイトが《ヒステリー研究》の中で報告した4症例の一つ。ルーシーは当時30歳の未婚のイギリス女性で，家庭教師となってウィーンの工場主の家に住み込んでいたが，奇妙な主観的なにおいに苦しんで，フロイトの治療を受けた。フロイトは，彼女の回想をたどって分析した結果，そのにおいの背後には，彼女の心に宿った工場主に対する恋心とその抑圧が働いていること，そのにおいは，実は工場主に叱責されたときに来客が吸っていた葉巻のにおいであって，ルーシーが恋心をその葉巻のにおいに置き換え，転換させたものであることなどを見いだした。
