The nickname for the International Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU). The International Secretariat of the National Centre of Trade Unions, founded in Dublin in 1903, changed its name to the International Trade Union Confederation in 1913, but collapsed the following year with the outbreak of World War I. After the war, in July 1914, the organization was re-established under new rules at the International Trade Union Congress held in Amsterdam. The nickname was derived from this. The organization had a close relationship with the ITS. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
