Nakazato [town] - Nakazato

Japanese: 中里[町] - なかさと
Nakazato [town] - Nakazato
An old town in the northern part of the Tsugaru Plain, Kitatsugaru District, Aomori Prefecture. Facing the Iwaki River to the west and Lake Jusan to the northwest, it is the terminus of the Tsugaru Railway. It was once a low-lying marshland, but land improvement work has opened it up into rice paddies, and it is also a major producer of timber. In March 2005, it merged with Odomari Village in Kitatsugaru District to become a town, Nakadomari Town. Area: 151.63 km2 . Population: 11,238 (2003).
