When volcanic activity is more intense than that of a maar and a large amount of volcanic ejecta is erupted, this accumulates around the crater and forms a cone. Depending on the constituent materials, they are classified as whitish, felsic, porous pumice cones, mafic, porous scoria cones, and cinder cones. The majority of cinder cones are scoria cones.
