Japanese: 江戸地回り経済 - えどじまわりけいざい

The market relationship between Edo and the surrounding areas formed in the mid-modern period. This market area is called the Edo local economic area. Goods arriving in Edo are divided into two categories: goods sent from Kyoto and Osaka, and goods sent around the country from Edo, mainly in the Kanto area. Some Edo wholesalers also used the word "kudari" or "jimawari" to indicate that they handled different kinds of goods. The Edo local economy is a market relationship between Edo and the local economic area, but it is considered to be in contrast to the market relationship for goods sent around the country.

近世中期以降に形成された江戸と近国との市場関係。その市場圏を江戸地回り経済圏という。江戸に入荷する商品は，京都･大坂方面から送られてくる下り荷と，関東を中心とする江戸近国からの地回り荷に二大別されている。江戸の問屋の中にも〈下り〉あるいは〈地回り〉を冠して，その取り扱っている商品が異なっていることを示すものもあった。江戸地回り経済は，江戸と地回り経済圏との市場関係であるが，それは下り荷の市場関係に対するものとして考えられている。
