Eden (English spelling)

Japanese: エデン（英語表記）Eden

In Hebrew, it means "joy, gladness." According to Genesis 2:8 and following, it is the paradise that Yahweh created for the first humans, Adam and Eve, and is also called the "Kingdom of God" (Ezekiel) or the "Garden of Yahweh" (Isaiah). Its geographical location is said to be east of Palestine (Genesis 2:8) or the source of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers (Genesis 2:10-14), but the exact location is unknown.

ヘブライ語で「喜び，楽しみ」の意。『創世記』2章8以下によればヤハウェが最初の人アダムとイブのために設けた楽園で，「神の国」 (エゼキエル書) ，「ヤハウェの園」 (イザヤ書) ともいわれている。その地理上の位置については，パレスチナより東のほう (創世記2・8) とも，チグリス，ユーフラテス川の源 (同2・10～14) ともいわれているが，正確なことはわかっていない。
