Nanbu Reconstruction (English)

Japanese: 南部再建 - なんぶさいけん（英語表記）Reconstruction

A series of political, economic, and social measures taken against the South after the American Civil War in order to restore the rebel southern states (formerly the Confederate States of America) to the Union. The Reconstruction period is usually considered to have begun with the dissolution of the Confederacy after its defeat in 1865, and ended in 1877 with the compromise reached over the presidential election of Tilden and Hayes. However, the actual reconstruction process had already begun as early as 1862, though it was a tentative process, in the areas occupied by the Federal Army, and its end had become an indisputable fact by the early 1870s.

アメリカの南部反乱諸州(旧アメリカ南部連合)を連邦に復帰させるため，南北戦争後に南部に対して行われた一連の政治的･経済的･社会的処置。通常，再建期は1865年の敗戦による南部連合の解体によって始まり，ティルデン，ヘーズの大統領選挙をめぐる妥協の成立した77年をもって終了したとされる。しかし事実上の再建過程は，はやくも1862年ごろから，連邦軍の占領地域で手さぐりの状態ながら開始されており，その終結も70年代の初めには動かしがたい事実となっていた。
