…Usually translated as “unidentified flying object”. It is said that on June 24, 1947, American businessman Arnold K. Arnold first witnessed nine mysterious objects flying at high speed while flying in his private plane over Mount Rainier in Washington State on the west coast. He likened the shape of the objects to a saucer, and so the name “flying saucer” was born. The translation is “flying saucer”, but there have been original sightings of flying objects in Japan since World War II, and some claim that the name was invented at that time. …
