...A terrestrial orchid with the most primitive flower shape among Japanese orchids. Found in a small area in southern Kyushu. The rhizome is short. The stem is less than 10 cm tall. There are about five narrowly ovate leaves, 2-3 cm long. Around July, several flowers appear at the top of the stem. The flowers are yellow and just under 1 cm in diameter. The sepals and petals are almost identical in shape, slightly recurved, almost radially symmetrical, and have no spur. The stamens and pistils are separate, and do not fuse together to form a column like other orchids.
