Etsu (Japanese tapertail anchovy) - Etsu (English spelling)
A fish of the genus Grenatfish in the family Engraulidae of the order Clupeidae. Its body is significantly compressed laterally, and its height gradually decreases toward the tail, with the base of the anal fin being so long that it appears to be connected to the caudal fin. Only the six soft rays at the top of the pectoral fin extend long and thread-like. The front end of the head is rounded, and the bones that form the upper jaw extend long behind the gill cover. The body is silvery white, and its scales are large and easily peeled off. It can grow to a length of over 20 cm. In Japan, it only lives in the inner Ariake Sea, and is mainly distributed in the Chikugo River and Yabe River, but the same genus is also distributed on the Korean Peninsula and in China.
