Masterpiece House - Natenoshou

Japanese:
Masterpiece House - Natenoshou
This manor was located on the north bank of the Kinokawa River in Naka County, Kii Province, in Naka-cho and Kokawa-cho in Wakayama Prefecture (both towns are now Kinokawa City). It was originally an inherited territory of Fujiwara no Yorisada, but when Yorisada failed in management, he donated it to Yamashiro Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine, and it was established as a manor in 1064. However, in 1072 (Enkyu 4), the manor was suspended. In 1107, it was established again as a manor for the Great Pagoda Buddha Saint Lamp Oil Supply Station of Mt. Koya, and was maintained as one of the properties of Konponji Temple of Mt. Koya until the end of the Middle Ages. When it was established as the property of Mt. Koya, it had more than 41 cho of rice fields and 82 cho of farmland, but only 3 cho of rice fields and 12 cho of farmland were used for viewing, and the majority of the land was occupied by Tashiro and Hatashiro (areas scheduled for development). In 1432, more than 300 years later, the area had grown to 85 cho of rice paddies and 12 cho of farmland. During this development, there was a fierce dispute with Nyuya Village, a territory of Kokawa Temple, over the Minami River (now the Nade River) that flows along the western border of the manor. Throughout the Middle Ages, the manor consisted of five villages (Egawa Village, Nogami Village, Umashuku Village, Naka Village, and Nishi Village), and in 1432 the number of rice paddies and households in each village was 14 cho and 8 u in Egawa Village, 18 cho and 27 u in Nogami Village, 21 cho and 24 u in Umashuku Village, 14 cho and 4 u in Naka Village, and 15 cho and 6 u in Nishi Village. The reason why the number of households is significantly higher in Nogami and Umashuku is probably because these two villages, located on the middle terrace of the left bank of the Minami River, were developed early on. The villa is located along the Kii-oji (Yamato Kaido), the successor to the Nankaido, and the city was established in the mid-13th century.
