Hyperbilirubinemia

Japanese: hyperbilirubinemia
Hyperbilirubinemia

In the blood of a normal person, serum bilirubin is 1 mg/dL or less, and when serum bilirubin is around 3 mg/dL or more, jaundice can be recognized. In general, jaundice is divided into cases where there is simply an increase in bilirubin and cases where there is also an increase in bile components, such as bile acids. The former is called hyperbilirubinemia, and the latter is called cholestasis.
[History of jaundice research]
Jaundice was already described by Hippocrates, and the terms jaundice and yellow gall bladder have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for a long time.
