In the blood of a normal person, serum bilirubin is 1 mg/dL or less, and when serum bilirubin is around 3 mg/dL or more, jaundice can be recognized. In general, jaundice is divided into cases where there is simply an increase in bilirubin and cases where there is also an increase in bile components, such as bile acids.
