An archaic human discovered in 1960 in the Petralona Cave in the Chalkidiki region of northern Greece. No stone tools were found. The Greek anthropologist Prianos considered this to be a typical ancestor of Neanderthals, but in recent times he has changed his claim to claim that it is even older and closer to Pithecanthropus, so its position is still inconclusive.
