A former town in Aichi County, located in the Koto Plain on the right bank of the Aichi River in central Shiga Prefecture. The main settlement developed from Watatsu Village, and it was a former post station on the Nakasendo road, famous as the base of Omi merchants. Rice cultivation is thriving, hemp textiles are a specialty, and the Omi Railway runs through the town. In February 2006, it merged with Hassho Town in Aichi County to become Aisho Town in Aichi County. 12.94 km2 .
