Ezo dragonfly - Ezo dragonfly

A general term for the family Scutellaria, order Odonata, class Insecta, and the name of one of the species. A medium-sized dragonfly with a metallic green color, body length of 55 mm, hindwing length of about 37 mm. This genus is generally of northern origin, and this species is often found in the high mountains of Hokkaido and Honshu, while those living in the lowlands of Honshu are larger. The larvae grow in shallow water in wetlands, but are difficult to find. The adults appear in the summer from June to September, and orbit in a certain space. Many dragonflies in the Scutellaria family are metallic green and are distributed mainly in the northern part of the Northern Hemisphere. In Japan, there are species such as Karakanetombo, Takanetombo, and Hosomimoritombo, but there are also southern species such as Minamitombo and Ogasawaratombo that live mainly in the Pacific region, and the larger ones of the Yamatombo subfamily, such as Ooyamatombo and Koyamatombo, are northern representatives of the group that is most prosperous in Southeast Asia.

昆虫綱トンボ目エゾトンボ科の総称、およびそのなかの1種名。中形のトンボで、全体が金属緑色を帯び、体長55ミリメートル、後翅長(こうしちょう)37ミリメートル内外。この属は全体に北方系で、本種は北海道と本州の高山地に多くみられ、本州の低地にすむものは体長が大きくなる。幼虫は湿地の浅い水中に育つが、発見は困難である。成虫は夏期6～9月にわたって出現し、一定の空間を周回している。エゾトンボ科のトンボは金属緑色のものが多く、北半球の北方におもに分布し、日本にはカラカネトンボ、タカネトンボ、ホソミモリトンボなどあるが、太平洋地域を主としてミナミトンボ、オガサワラトンボなどの南方種もあり、さらに大形のヤマトンボ亜科のものは、オオヤマトンボ、コヤマトンボなど東南アジアにもっとも栄えている群の北方代表である。
