...Tange Sazen, the one-eyed, one-armed superhuman swordsman, first appeared on the big screen in May 1928. The original story was Ooka Seidan: Suzuki Genjuro no Maki by Hayashi Fubo, and three companies competed to adapt it into a film, so three different Tange Sazens appeared at the same time: Okochi Denjiro in the Nikkatsu version, Dan Tokumaro in the Toa Kinema version, and Arashi Chozaburo (later Arashi Kanjuro) in the Makino version. All three films were titled New Edition of Ooka Seidan, and were directed by Ito Daisuke for the Nikkatsu version, Hirose Goro for the Toa Kinema version, and Futagawa Buntaro for the Makino version. ...
