An old town in Ono County, occupying the middle reaches of the Ono River in southern Oita Prefecture. Inukai, located in the center on a terrace of the Ono River, flourished as a river port for the Takeda Domain during the feudal era. The town is connected by the Hohi Main Line, and is a place for the distribution of agricultural and forestry products. It produces rice, tobacco leaves, and other products. It is home to the Inukai Stone Buddha (historic site). In March 2005, it merged with Mie Town, Ogata Town, Asaji Town, Ono Town, Kiyokawa Village, and Chitose Village in Ono County to become a city, Bungo-Ono City. 46.74 km2 . 4,572 people (2003). 大分県南部,大野川中流域を占める大野郡の旧町。大野川の段丘上にある中心の犬飼は藩政期竹田藩の河港として栄えた。豊肥本線が通じ農・林産物を集散。米,葉タバコなどを産する。犬飼石仏(史跡)がある。2005年3月大野郡三重町,緒方町,朝地町,大野町,清川村,千歳村と合併し市制,豊後大野市となる。46.74km2。4572人(2003)。
