Oxygen fluoride (Fukkasanso)

There are four known compounds of fluorine and oxygen: OF ₂ , O ₂ F ₂ , O ₃ F ₂ , and O ₄ F ₂ , and research is being conducted into their use as rocket fuel.
[Oxygen difluoride]
Chemical formula: OF ₂ . It can be obtained by passing fluorine through an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide or by electrolyzing an aqueous solution of HF-KF. It can also be obtained by reacting fluorine with water in the presence of potassium fluoride. Melting point: -223.8°C, boiling point: -144.8°C. The gas is colorless and the liquid is pale yellow. It is toxic. It is the most stable of the oxygen fluorides and is relatively chemically inactive, but is characterized by its strong oxidizing power, and will explode at room temperature when mixed with a halogen or water vapor.

　化学式OF₂。水酸化ナトリウム水溶液にフッ素を通ずるか，HF‐KFの水溶液を電解すると得られる。フッ化カリウムの存在下で水とフッ素を反応させる方法もある。融点－223.8℃，沸点－144.8℃。気体は無色，液体は淡黄色。有毒。フッ化酸素中最も安定で，化学的には比較的不活性であるが，その強い酸化力に特徴があり，ハロゲンと混合するか水蒸気と混合すると室温で爆発。
