…Ming music was introduced to Nagasaki by Fujian Province native Wei Shuanghou (1613?-1690) in the mid-17th century, and was later performed in Kyoto at the Imperial Palace. Wei Shuanghou's great-grandson Wei Hao (style name Zimei, ?-1774) also lived in Kyoto for about 10 years around 1770 (Meiwa 7), where he trained more than 100 disciples and gained the adoration of aristocrats and nobles. The Wei Shi Music Sheet, published in Edo, Kyoto, and Osaka in 1768, includes 50 of the more than 200 pieces that had been handed down. …
