In the second year of the reign of Darius I of Persia (522-486 BC), he called on the returnees of Judah to begin the work of rebuilding the Second Temple in Jerusalem. He appointed Governor Zerubbabel, who was related to the royal house of David, and High Priest Joshua as leaders, and anointed Zerubbabel as the Messianic king. The rebuilding of the temple was completed in 516 BC, but the Messianic movement failed. …
