...This work influenced other Arab countries, and after Barāqi (died 1914) wrote The History of Kufa, Kurd Ali (died 1953) published The Syriac in 1925. Iran also has a long tradition of writing geographical maps, and in local histories such as the Book of Fars by Ibn Barkhī (died early 12th century) and the New History of Yazd by Aḥmad Kātib (15th century), geographical maps play an important role and continue to do so to this day. The first Japanese geography was the Fudoki, which was compiled by Emperor Genmei in 713 (6th year of Wadō) and ordered all provinces to submit records of the origins of the names of counties, villages, and places, as well as the products of the region, the fertility of the land, and the traditions of the elders.
