[1] 〘Noun〙 = Amaginu (raincoat) ※Kyuan Hyakushu (1153), Zōge: “In the drizzle, the Sode no Ura ni, Shihotare masaru Amaginu (raincoat)〈Taikemon'in Horikawa〉” [2] It is related to “mino (raincoat) ” as it means something worn to protect from rain. ※Kokin (905-914), Zōge, 913: “Nanihagatashihomichikurashiamagoromotaminonoshimani tazunakiwataru〈Author unknown〉” [Additional note] In waka poetry, it is often used in conjunction with “umibito-gome” (fisherman’s robe) and “nun-gome” (nun’s robe).

Amaginu [raincoat]

〘 noun 〙 A garment worn over clothing to protect against rain and other elements. In the old days, the outer layer was made of oiled white silk, while the inner layer was made of unoiled white silk. Rainwear. Amagoromo.
