A language of the Eskimo and Inuit. It is part of the Eskimo-Aleut family of American Indian languages. It is spoken by about 100,000 people from Greenland to Canada, Alaska, and the Chukchi Peninsula. There are large dialect differences. It has developed suffixes and is classified as a collective language in structure. In addition to the Latin alphabet, a special syllabary has been devised.
