[Systematics and classification]
The distant ancestor of frogs is thought to be Miobatrachus , which branched off from the labyrinthodont amphibians that flourished in the Triassic Period, and had a frog-like head and a long tail. In the Jurassic Period, a frog-like ancestor appeared that lost its tail as an adult.
