ESCAP
Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. ECAFE was established in 1947 as a subordinate body of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and was renamed in September 1974. Its main mission is to carry out research, studies, and recommendations for economic and social development in the Asia-Pacific region. Some of its achievements include the establishment of the Asian Development Bank and the construction of the Asian Highway. Headquarters: Bangkok. There are 51 member countries and 9 associate member countries and regions (1999).
