A device used to divide the circumference of a workpiece into any number of equal parts. The workpiece is attached to a main shaft with a worm wheel, and the worm that meshes with this is rotated a specified angle by an indexing plate with holes that divide the circumference into various equal parts. There are also high-precision optical indexing tables. When combined with a universal milling machine, it is used to cut equally spaced grooves on cylindrical surfaces or to machine hexagons, etc., for machining gears and cams.

工作物の円周を任意の数に等分するのに用いる装置。工作物を取り付ける主軸にウォームホイールがあり，これとかみあうウォームを，円周を種々の数に等分した穴を設けた割出板によって，所定の角度旋回させる。高精度の光学式割出台もある。万能フライス盤などに組み合わせ，円筒面に等間隔の溝を切ったり，六角形などを削り出し，歯車・カムの加工に利用される。
