A typical example of concentration on a global scale is the activities of multinational publishing companies. McGraw-Hill (the core is McGraw-Hill, Inc., USA, founded in 1925), Wiley (the core is John Wiley & Sons, Inc., USA, founded in 1807), Springer (the core is Springer-Verlag, Germany, founded in 1842), Elsevier (the core is Elsevier, Netherlands, founded in 1880), Macmillan (the core is Macmilan, Inc., USA, founded in 1920), and Oxford University Press (the core is Oxford University Press, UK, founded in 1478) are active companies with branches all over the world, and are particularly notable in the fields of academic information and educational publishing. Today, as the demand for a new world information order (New World Information and Communication Order) gradually increases, the activities of these multinational publishing companies are attracting attention in relation to the publishing development in developing countries, which will be discussed later.
