This keyhole-shaped tumulus is located in Yoshida, Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture. It is located in the center of the Ningyobaru Plateau, which stretches from east to west in the northern part of Yame City. Nearby are the Sekijinyama Tumulus, with its armed stone figures, and the Noriba Tumulus, a decorated tumulus. The size of this tumulus is about 135 meters in total length, with a diameter of about 60 meters at the rear circular mound, and it is surrounded by a dry moat and a surrounding bank. What is noteworthy is that it has a unique facility called a separate area, measuring 43 meters on each side, on the northern side of the rear circular mound, which is unparalleled. Along with the Sekijinyama Tumulus, it has been attracting attention since the Edo period, and is thought to be the burial site of Iwai, the Tsukushi no Kuni no Miyatsuko, who caused a rebellion in 527 (the 21st year of the reign of Emperor Keitai). It is decorated with a large number of stone figures and stone horses, making it even more important as a tumulus that can tell us about its unique shape and absolute dating. It was designated as a national historic site in 1955 (Showa 30).
