This is the former area of the northeastern part of Hagi City, facing the Sea of Japan in northern Yamaguchi Prefecture. In 1955 it merged with Ogawa Village to form Tamanagawa Town, and in 2005 seven surrounding cities and towns merged to form Hagi City. There is a lot of interaction with Masuda City in Shimane Prefecture to the east, and the influence of Shimane Prefecture is strong. In the Edo period, it was bustling with rice shipping and Kitamae ships. It is a fishing port and a tourist base for the Kitanagato Coast Quasi-National Park. It is home to Esaki Station on the JR San-in Main Line. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
