Key spear - Key spear

Japanese:
Key spear - Key spear

A type of spear with a key-shaped iron side handle attached to the top of the handle. It was invented as a countermeasure to the advancement of straight spear technology, and was very popular for a time because it was effective in entangling or hooking enemy spears to take them down. Famous schools that focus on the key spear include the Kashiwara school, Honshinkyochi school, Saburi school, and Utsumi school, and each school puts great effort into the position and shape of the side handle.
